40 Day Sadhana
Personal Practice with Group Support
Spring & Autumn
What is a Sadhana?
In yoga, a sadhana is a devoted personal practice, (usually a daily practice). While there are many definitions, this is the one that I like best and works for our purposes here. A daily sadhana is the core of any yogic life. What makes up a sadhana is a little bit different for everyone and can change a different times of life. It is also a container in which we can experiment when we pair it with the traditional length of time of 40 days. A lot of my current daily sadhana, started with a 40 day practice (experiment) and then evolved into a regular part of my daily sadhana.
Twice A Year
Sawrah runs 40 Day Sadhana Circles twice a year. Once in the spring and once in the Autumn. The timing varies a little from year to year, but the core elements remain the same for a supportive and spacious structure.
The purpose of a 40 Day Sadhana is to create an experiment. Each sadhana will center around a different personal practice. Each person will do the same core practice for 40 days on their own, but it will be designed around you and your life.
There are three meetings as a group to create a supportive container for your journey through the experiment. As the introvert saying goes, “alone together.” That’s essentially what these circles are like. Each person practices on their own in their own home, but knows that a whole group is doing this at the same time.
The three meetings are an opening meeting to create a connection to the group, a mid point meeting to check in, practice together, and share experiences, and a closing meeting to close the container, share reflections, thoughts, and observations. We practice on our own, and then come together to share our experiences and learn from each other.
Join me and a committed group, for an exploration into the power of your own personal practice!
How does a 40 Day Sadhana work?
We’ll meet as a group live on Zoom on for an opening circle before we begin. At this meeting you will learn the practice we will be focused on. We’ll also do some intention setting, journaling, and connecting. There will also be time to ask questions and receive guidance on how to set up your sadhana to encourage consistent practice. We are starting a new practice, so of course, we’ll be talking about one of my favorite topics, habits!
On the specified date we will begin our personal daily practice, and continue for 40 consecutive days. For each day of the sadhana, you will do your own practice. Practice will be five minutes or less.
Along the way you will also be personally supported by email and an optional private online group (not on social media).
We’ll meet live on Zoom at the midpoint (often Day 20) to check in, connect, journal, and share experiences.
We meet for the third and final time, live on Zoom, for a closing circle. This final meeting will be to reflect, journal, share experiences, integrate the sadhana and see how you would like to move forward.
“A daily personal sadhana is the core of my spiritual and life practice. It creates a grounded, spacious, supported stability from which to engage in my life.”

A sadhana is what we call a personal practice in the yogic tradition. 40 Days is a traditional block of time for practice.
Each sadhana focusses on a different practice. It’s ok if you’ve never done it before or heard of it. It will be taught in the opening virtual session.
