You Have A Choice

If there was one thing that I could share with people about personal conscious technology use, it would be a reminder that we have a choice.

I don’t mean this in an existential way, I mean it literally. We have a choice in how, when and why, we interact with our devices. We get to design our own operating system for our interaction.

I think we can often fall into a resigned mindset of "that's just the way it is." We don't have to be resigned, or let it rule us. (I know "rule us" is a bit strong, but I think its warranted.)

One question I keep coming back and applying to all things is, is this supporting my overall wellbeing?

Often when this topic comes up, one of the first things people say to me is that they can’t do x,y,z with their tech use because of a,b,c reason.

In short, limiting beliefs come up. This is completely normal. What I’m proposing when I talk about conscious technology use is outside of the norm, it’s different, it’s a new perspective; and that can be fear inducing to folks, which then leads to the expression of limiting beliefs.

This is not a judgment, this is a recognition of the nervous system process we all go through when we are faced with something new, different, and potentially unsafe.

Our primal system is designed to keep us safe. New is often seen as unsafe. It’s often why we don’t change our behaviors or change them easefully. It’s why it can seem like an uphill battle.

Maybe even just this post is allowing your limiting beliefs about your tech “have tos” to come up.

Take a breath here.

Pause.

What is coming up for you?

I invite you to write it down.

Let this linger a while, maybe a week or two and see what else pops into your head around this topic. Awareness is an unfolding, there is no rush.

Remember, you have a choice and permission to do it differently. The way that is right for you.
